NO, because NO ONE KNOWS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DIE! so, until you show me a zombie that has been to heaven. STOP LOOKING DOWN ON OTHERS! also, don't make fun of africa. Those people are in a genacide, wars, slavery, poverty, and they have to deal with malaria, aids, starvation, over population, cross breeding, and also the animals of the savannah. think about that you snobby americans who sit in your 3 story homes with your plasma tvs that THROW AWAY excess food because you don't want to eat it. They are not like us, their thought processes are fundamentally different. I would go as far as to say that their lack of critical thinking has a basis in genetics. It doesn't matter if you corner them with an irrefutable argument, they are oblivious to it. Just accept that we are different. People have predicted that humanity will continue to evolve into two-tiers and I wouldn't be at all surprised if "faith" is the cornerstone of our differences in the future.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09112324751599658913noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2141007497786298916.post-10122066954447031982009-04-24T15:24:00.000-04:002009-04-24T15:24:00.000-04:00"Materialist atheism says we are just a collection..."Materialist atheism says we are just a collection of chemicals. It has no answer whatsoever to the question of how we should be capable of love or heroism or poetry if we are simply animated pieces of meat"
This is of course a straw man argument. Atheism has at it's heart a deep, experiential mystery. We do not have stock "one size fits all" type answers. Science is the best we can do, and it really is pretty frail. Carl Sagan and Robert G Ingersoll, as examples, both realised this. Please take time to read the following article by Ed Weathers. Although dated, it really is the best defense of non-belief in general I have come across:

http://adoptanatheist.blogspot.com/search/label/AAA%20This%20is%20a%20MUST%20READ.

Atheism in this sense is very humble, and religion extremely bigoted. His "A Short introduction to atheism" starts off by defining atheism as "a belief that god/ gods do not exist" WRONG!!!! There is no belief involved at all. I for one, have no "belief" that there is no God, I simply have no idea what the frick that means! Give me a definition of the G word (what the word means to you) and I will tell you whether I believe in it or not... Atheism is deeply misunderstood and I hate that very much, because it is so easy and natural.

Baggini's book is free in PDF format and I recommend it for all:

http://www.questia.com/PM.qst?a=o&d=101653394Exzanianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15224569439945248911noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2141007497786298916.post-24199601153602382452009-03-05T23:31:00.000-05:002009-03-05T23:31:00.000-05:00Allow me to finish my sentence. It's an opportunity for humans as a whole and for us as individuals to choose our own path without worrying over the imagined wills of gods. Atheism is freedom. The freedom to work towards our own goals and become who we truly wish to be rather than merely conforming to pious demands of how people ought to be.

And although religion is constantly praised as a source of comfort, it's rare to see an honest appraisal that considers that believers do not always find their beliefs satisfying or comforting.

The deck is always stacked with the most content believer compared to the most caricatured, unrealistic atheist with the implication that therefore, theism is preferable to atheism.

It is simply dishonest.Hydrahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14360836968011962736noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2141007497786298916.post-23149202294293421652009-02-28T13:03:00.000-05:002009-02-28T13:03:00.000-05:00Yeah, a true believer may say "but my faith makes ...Yeah, a true believer may say "but my faith makes me happy" Sure it does, what I want to know is, is it true? Simple as that!
Put all the emotional claptrap one side, square up to reality and if that leaves you depressed, well at least its honest. "Better the harsh reality, than the comforting illusion" (Carl Sagan)
I highly recommend reading Carl Sagans books. In Billions and Billions, Ann Druyan writes in the epilogue
"Contrary to the fantasies of the fundamentalists, there was no deathbed conversion, no last minute refuge taken in a comforting vision of a heaven or an afterlife. For Carl, what mattered most was what was true, not merely what would make us feel better. Even at this moment when anyone would be forgiven for turning away from the reality of our situation, Carl was unflinching. As we looked deeply into each other's eyes, it was with a shared conviction that our wondrous life together was ending forever."

Imagine trading that depth of honesty for a fraudulant god...Never!!!Exzanianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15224569439945248911noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2141007497786298916.post-48265138050696147792009-02-13T16:58:00.000-05:002009-02-13T16:58:00.000-05:00Yeah, I'm not a fan of Christian groups churning o...Yeah, I'm not a fan of Christian groups churning out turn-or-burn advertising and then trying to shut down comparatively meek atheist adverts for "intolerance". True believers want to reserve all their rights (including their varieties of the doctrine of eternal "exclusion from the grace of god") and at the SAME TIME call on tolerence from atheists! They say "tolerence" and "respect" but what they really mean is "Shaddup!"

NO more I say, and I have personally contributed to the UK atheist bus campaign. It's good that people are not just being passive about these issues.

However, I have to say that this blog entry was a little painful for me. It's nearly impossible to distinguish your sarcasm from your actual opinions. Who knows -- maybe it's just that I don't know you in person and am thus unable to discern these things. However, I think it would be wise (if you're intending to reach anyone on the theistic or athestic side of things) to be a little more gracious and loving in your remarks. If these truths are worth fighting for, then they should be done in a way that will not just push people away from you.

If you're wondering why a random person is commenting on your blog, I stumbled upon your blog on Google Blog Search.

-KurtisKurtis Beckwithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12304489450540631998noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2141007497786298916.post-7031675707574123492009-01-31T14:04:00.000-05:002009-01-31T14:04:00.000-05:00Atheism? You're either completely ignorant about atheism or you're a barefaced liar.

Ignorance = laziness and there's no excuse for that as _factual_ information about atheism is abundant online. Dishonesty & wilful misrepresentations of people who don't share your philosophy, however, carry a heavier moral burden.

I'll tell you one thing we definitely DO hate though: being labelled, inaccurately & unfairly, by people who don't have the slightest fucking clue what atheism is - or what it isn't.

Comparing people whose only "crime" is to not worship any gods to people who enslaved, tortured & executed MILLIONS of Jewish people in the name of some twisted master-race pseudo-Viking ideology (building on a base oo centuries of _Christian_ anti-Semitism) is the most disgusting, vile & grievously offensive thing I can imagine. I hope you live to one day see precisely how wrong you are about non-religious people. It's a great pity you didn't study history or critical thinking - or even how to make APPROPRIATE comparisons between social groups - when you did your Masters in Theology.

But hey, most educated people know that Theology is basically learning how to convince and re-convice yourself that you already know you're right anyway.

Read this: http://dangerousintersection.org/2008/09/22/why-i-am-not-an-atheist/hank_sayshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18406469261027721291noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2141007497786298916.post-63420529372434765822009-01-20T09:55:00.000-05:002009-01-20T09:55:00.000-05:00atheism is nothing but a hate group. atheists are ...atheism is nothing but a hate group. atheists are no better than Nazis.

http://atheistwatch.blogspot.com/Joseph Hinman (Metacrock)https://www.blogger.com/profile/06957529748541493998noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2141007497786298916.post-83397125835145872452009-01-18T04:35:00.000-05:002009-01-18T04:35:00.000-05:00Holy Moses! I have not been following this debate but it surprises me that the conversion of RA should be to orthodox christianity. Why not Taoism, Hinduism, Islam or any other of a dozen religions? It seems to me, if the RA is being serious (and not planning on doing a double whammy on true believers)it is just a reversion to type, an atavism. The "engrams" implanted in youth are playing out their script and RA is just blindly responding! Pathetic really. At least, when we heard of the conversion of Anthony Flew, it turned out to be just a form of Deism.
